Misāmi: The Play in the Dolakha Newar Language
Misāmi is a 1975 play written in Dolakha Newar by Shyam Joshi. In 2025 it was published with Nepali translation and restaged in Kathmandu. A complete film of the videographed performance with Nepali and English subtitles has been produced.
In addition to the film of the play, there will be a documentary about the play, the language, the Dolakha Newar community, and documentation efforts. Collaborators: TNN Nepal, Limited, Dr. HD Shrestha, Dr. SK Joshi and many others.
I have been working with members of the Dolakha Newar community to create and publish a quadrilingual dictionary. We continue our work and aim to produce reverse dictionaries for Nepali and English
Documentation of Dolakha Newar
I am preparing all of the materials I have collected on Dolakha Newar for archiving. Other projects include a trilingual version of my texts, further work on the dictionary, children's books, and possibly video documentation of cultural practices.
